The Ethiopian authorities announced, on Monday, that it killed 8 militants and arrested 6 others from a rebel group affiliated with Oromo Liberation Front (OLF), in the west of the country.
The Oromia Police Commission told the official Ethiopian TV that the security services and special forces in the West of Welega region, 87 supporters of the aforementioned armed group, which splits from the Oromo Liberation Front, were also arrested.
The head of the Communications Affairs Office of Oromia region said that the death toll of the armed group, amounted to 782 militants after a joint cleansing operation launched by the army and special forces of the regional government in the centre of the country.
He added, in statements to local media, that the militants who were eliminated were involved in violations, killings and incitement to violence, in cooperation with the Tigray Liberation Front in different regions.
The armed group is stationed in areas around Oromia, and the regional government accuses it of carrying out killings from time to time in the region, which killed civilians and policemen in earlier times.
This group has become a threat to peace and security in various regions of Oromia after it managed to penetrate several regions and forests in the west and east of the region.
