8 Killed in Helicopter Crash in Ecuador

A military helicopter crashed in the Ecuadorian Amazon region on Thursday, resulting in the death of all eight passengers, including three civilians, the army announced on Friday.

The army stated in a release that the helicopter crashed in Tiyuino in the province of Pastaza in eastern Ecuador, and the location of the crew members' bodies has been identified.

"Due to weather conditions, the bodies will not be retrieved until Saturday,” the statement added,

The incident occurred at 09:36 local time (14:36 GMT) while the helicopter was carrying employees from the National Secretariat for Risk Management.

The helicopter was engaged in support operations for this agency, transporting food supplies and aid to flood-affected towns, according to the army.

On board the aircraft were the pilot, co-pilot, three army mechanic technicians, and three civilians.
