A road accident in Veracruz, eastern Mexico, has left eight people dead and 27 injured after a bus collided with a truck early Saturday.
The collision occurred before dawn along a highway near Xalapa, the state capital along the Gulf of Mexico, according to Veracruz prosecutors, as reported by ABC News.
Among the fatalities were three men, four women, and a young girl, with most victims identified as passengers of the bus. Emergency services transported the injured to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Road safety in Mexico is a growing concern, with highway accidents frequently attributed to poor road conditions, reckless driving, and challenging topography in certain regions.
This incident adds to the ongoing call for stricter safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
