According to the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) headquarters in South Sudan's Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, a significant number of South Sudanese refugees who fled the fighting in Sudan have returned to their country.
The agency reports that 1,233 homes and 6,165 (individual) South Sudanese returnees are stationed in Majok Yinh Thiou, Kiir Adem, Mayom Angok, and other regions in the Aweil and North Counties. In the same locations, 2,700 Sudanese refugees with 548 households were also registered.
The war victims have arrived in the states following the battle in Sudan, according to Dut Majokdit, Chairperson of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission for Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, who was speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday.
Regarding the fighting in Sudan on April 15, Majokdit stated: "Regarding the fighting in Sudan on April 15 we experienced mass displacement from different states in Sudan who entered in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State via six entry points of Mayom Angok, Kiir Kangbek, Kiir Adem, Jaac, Majok Yinh Thiou and Rumaker."
Majokdit came to the conclusion that the refugees and returnees are in need of food and non-food things like medicines. He has pleaded with aid agencies to travel and attend to the needs of Sudanese refugees.
Victorino Ken Akoon, the county commissioner for Aweil North, has acknowledged for the first time that Sudanese refugees had arrived in his county and claims to hear tales of new arrivals of both refugees and returns every day.
"I went them on Saturday of last week and collected all South Sudanese who had fled the war in their country as well as Sudanese refugees. There were 2,700 refugees total, and I've heard Kiir Kangbek has a sizable number of returnees," Ken added.
