 6 Tips for Diabetics during Ramadan

Diabetics and fasting require strict controls and standards so that the health of the fasting patient does not deteriorate.

Dr. Shahenda Mahjoub, Faculty of Pharmacy in Helwan University provides 6 tips for diabetics during the fasting period.

Dr, Mahjoub will continue the series of advice under the the Faculty during the holy month of Ramadan for diabetics.

The tips are:

1-Stay away from eating foods that contain a high amount of fat as well as fried foods.

2- After breakfast, diabetics need a high percentage of drinking water to replace the fluids that the body lost during the day.

3- Diabetics should reduce their intake of caffeinated drinks, including tea and coffee, as well as soft drinks.

4- They ought to replacing the types of juices with fruits that contain vitamins and minerals.

5- Diabetics need to replace white bread with brown bread and oat bread rich in complex carbohydrates.

6- They should delay the "Suhoor" (a pre-dawn meal).
