A spokesman for the Philippine Army announced on Monday that six soldiers and at least one militant were killed in the south of the country, while security forces are pursuing fighters believed to have carried out bombings targeting a mass last December.
Philippine Army spokesman Colonel Louie Dima-ala said - in statements reported by the Philippine Star newspaper - that the clashes took place in the forest near the town of Munai on the southern island of Mindanao.
He added, "This is part of an operation against ISIS. Unfortunately, we suffered human losses."
He added that four Filipino soldiers were injured in addition to those killed, while a militant was killed
ISIS had claimed responsibility for bombing a mass in the Marawi region on December 3, 2023.
