The Committee of Iranian elections announced that 40 female candidates registered for Presidential elections from 592 candidates, Youm 7 reported on Sunday.
The official registration of candidates started on May 7 and ended on May 11. The registered names include more than 20 public figures who announced their will to run, however, the final list of those qualified will be declared on May 26,27.
Zahra Shojaei is one of the most important female figures who submitted her documents for the run for the presidency.
The Iranian leading politician is a figurative icon for women's rights in the state, in addition, she was the advisor of women's affairs in President Khatami's presidential term.
Iranian officials asserted that the Iranian constitution or laws don't prevent the participation of women in elections, however, female candidates wait for their exclusion.
