Humans seek happiness and pursue it all the time. It is a state when one fulfills their expectations and craving is satisfied.

We don't often think of happiness as a state of mind. Instead, we view being happy as an emotion. When you ask someone what makes them happy, there are can be a variety of answers.

The presence of a loved one, watching a movie starring their favorite actor, eating their most favorite food, or just getting a day off where they can relax and unwind are some of the most most common answers you may receive.

However, happiness, scientifically speaking, is just a bodily function that takes place when certain hormones are released in the body.

At a time when you are mentally suffering, improving your well-being and happiness is important.

What are happy hormones and how to produce them?

There are 4 natural happy hormones: dopamine, oxytocin, serotonin, and endorphin.

  • Dopamine:

Dopamine, also called the reward chemical, is released when the brain receives a signal that you have performed an action or task that should be rewarded.

The production of the chemical includes completing a task and acknowledging it, practicing self-care, eating healthy food, and celebrating achievements.

  • Oxytocin:

Oxytocin, also called the love hormone, is one of the most popular happy hormones. It is produced by acts of expressing love and affection.

The production of the hormone includes playing with a dog or a baby, holding hands, intimacy, hugging a beloved one, and giving or receiving compliments.

  • Serotonin:

Serotonin is also called the mood-stabilizing hormone. On the days you do not feel your best, you may need a serotonin boost.

The hormone can be produced by activities that help to calm you down such as meditation, exercise, basking in the sun, and nature walk.

  • Endorphin:

Endorphins, also called the pain-killing hormone, deals with physical and emotional pain.

Activities that can help in the production of endorphins include exercising, watching a comedy, laughter exercise, and eating dark chocolate.
