According to authorities, an explosion in an apartment building on the island of Jersey, off the coast of northern France, resulted in the deaths of three persons on Saturday morning. Police reported that about a dozen persons are missing.
Although the origin of the explosion has not been revealed, authorities have acknowledged that fire services were called to the scene on Friday after locals reported smelling gas.
According to States of Jersey Police Chief Robin Smith, a three-story structure "totally collapsed."
The largest of the Channel Islands, Jersey, is self-governing, however Britain is in charge of its security and foreign affairs.
