The death toll from heavy rains and severe flooding in Bolivia has risen to 28 since November, according to Deputy Minister of Civil Defense Juan Carlos Calvimontes.
The extreme weather has caused widespread devastation across the country, impacting eight out of Bolivia’s nine regions.
A total of 83 municipalities have been severely affected, with many expected to declare a state of disaster in the coming days.
27 municipalities have already declared a state of emergency, including 22 in La Paz, which has been hit hardest by the extreme weather conditions.
The fatalities have been recorded in Chuquisaca, La Paz, Tarija, Cochabamba, Santa Cruz, and Potosí, with four people still missing, including three in northern La Paz and one in Chuquisaca.
The National Meteorology and Hydrology Service has warned that heavy rainfall is expected to continue in the coming weeks, with forecasts indicating that storms could persist into March and April.
