Authorities in the Dominican Republic reported on Sunday that at least 21 people have lost their lives due to heavy rains that fell yesterday, causing the displacement of thousands of residents.
According to an afternoon report from the Emergency Operations Center, more than 13,000 people were forced to move to safer areas as the heavy rains inundated homes, resulted in power outages, and caused damage to bridges and sections of roads.
The Emergency Operations Center also confirmed that a total of 21 people have tragically lost their lives.
Emergency response agencies have intervened to rescue more than 2,500 individuals, and the storm has inflicted damage on over 2,600 homes.
Additionally, the report stated that communications remain disrupted in 45 residential areas as of this afternoon.
The heavy rains have brought about a dire situation in the Dominican Republic, with authorities working diligently to provide relief and assistance to affected communities.
