The Japanese authorities ordered nearly 205,000 people from Shizuoka prefecture to evacuate due to the risk of landslides caused by torrential rains.

Japanese media reported that authorities ordered more than 203,000 people living in Hamamatsu to evacuate their homes, along with over 2300 others in Kosai city; these mainly include the elders and people with limited capabilities.

The authorities fear that the expected heavy rains will cause soil erosion and increase the possibility of landslides.

The authorities have raised the alert status in these areas to the third level out of five.
