Senegal will kick off the round of 16 at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations with a highly anticipated clash against Sudan on Saturday evening at the Grand Stade de Tanger, one of the tournament’s premier venues.
Senegal head into the encounter brimming with confidence after a strong group-stage campaign that saw them top Group D with seven points from two wins and a draw.
The Lions of Teranga opened their campaign with a convincing 3–0 victory over Botswana, highlighted by a brace from Nicolas Jackson, before drawing 1–1 with DR Congo thanks to a goal from captain Sadio Mané.
They then sealed first place with another emphatic 3–0 win over Benin, underlining their credentials as title contenders.
Sudan, by contrast, reached the last 16 after a difficult path through Group E.
They secured a crucial 1–0 win over Equatorial Guinea via an own goal and benefited from complex qualification scenarios in the final round of group matches, despite ending the group stage with a 2–0 defeat to Burkina Faso.
The winner of this match will advance to the quarterfinals, where they will face either Tunisia or Mali, as the road to continental glory grows ever more demanding.
