20% of the recent Coronavirus infections in the past two weeks in the US were by Delta variant (Indian variant), RT reported on Wednesday.

Dr. Antony Fauci, the director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said that the Delta variant becomes the biggest threat, and it leads the infections in the US such as the UK. He also warned that it tragically spreads among young people.

On the other hand, the scientist asserted that COVID-19 vaccines are effective against the strain according to the earliest indicators.

In the same context, local Indian strain raised a sense of concern in Europe amid the easing of the pandemic restrictions.

The UK witnessed a share rise in daily COVID-19 infections due to the tragic outbreak of the new variant. Experts highlighted that 91 percent of the current COVID-19 cases are by Delta strain.

This new wave of infections forced UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson to delay easing the pandemic restrictions for four weeks in England. On the other hand, Scotland and North Ireland are still keeping quasi-restricting measures.
