At least two Pakistani police officers were killed and another injured in a grenade attack targeting a police patrol vehicle in the volatile Balochistan province on Sunday.
According to Geo News, unidentified assailants hurled a hand grenade at a mobile police unit conducting a routine patrol in Dera Bugti, triggering a powerful explosion that left two officers dead at the scene and a third critically wounded.
The attack comes just one day after a separate security incident in the Bajaur district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where a rocket targeted the residence of Mubarak Zeb, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for Tribal Affairs. Zeb escaped unharmed, though the incident has heightened fears of coordinated attacks on government officials.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned the Bajaur attack and reaffirmed his government's commitment to eradicating terrorism and safeguarding both officials and citizens across the country. Security forces have since launched a search operation to locate the perpetrators of the Dera Bugti attack.
Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest but least populated province, has long been plagued by separatist violence, Islamist militancy, and tribal unrest, making it a hotspot for insurgent activity. The province’s rugged terrain and porous borders often hinder counterterrorism efforts, prompting repeated calls for increased security measures.
