Two people died when a small plane attempted an emergency landing on Interstate 75 in Southwest Florida, colliding with a vehicle and causing a traffic halt.

The incident occurred on Friday near the Pine Ridge Road exit in Collier County, just north of where the highway turns east towards Fort Lauderdale.

Eyewitness Briana Walker, present at the scene, reported seeing the plane's wing dragging the car in front of her and hitting the wall.

Walker and her friend noticed the plane moments before it crashed onto the highway, enabling her friend to stop in time before the wreckage.

Following the crash, Walker described an explosion with flames emanating from the plane, causing a loud noise and scattering debris across the highway.
