A fatal traffic accident on the Mazar-e-Sharif-Hairatan highway in Balkh province, Afghanistan, claimed two lives and left three others injured on Sunday, according to a Taliban statement.

The collision involved a “Pasu” passenger vehicle and a “Mazda” truck.

The injured victims were transported to nearby medical facilities and remain under medical care. Authorities attributed the incident to driver negligence.

Road accidents remain a critical concern in Afghanistan, causing hundreds of deaths annually.

Experts highlight driver negligence, poorly maintained infrastructure, and inadequate traffic signage as major contributors to the country’s high accident rates.
