On Wednesday, Saudi Arabia's Minister of Health, Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, announced that first batch of COVID-19 vaccine will arrive today in the Kingdom, noting that the distribution of the vaccine will be started within the coming three days.
During his speech at the Saudi Budget Forum 2021, Al-Rabiah said that the Kingdom has successfully dealt with the pandemic from the early beginning of its outbreak outside China.
The Minister also hailed Saudi Arabia's great efforts to curb the outbreak of the pandemic, affirming that they have placed human health above all and raised the number of intensive care beds by 60 percent within 3 months.
He noted, "About 150,000 people have registered to take the coronavirus vaccine through “Sehaty” App since its launch yesterday."
The ministry has previously announced that the vaccine would be free, and assured the public of its safety as the jab passed all testing stages.
On his part, Finance Minister Mohamed Al-Jadaan said that the Kingdom supported all private sector initiatives to preserve Saudi jobs, “as we witnessed a strong return to economic activity in Saudi Arabia during the third and fourth quarters,” he added.
He added that Vision 2030 has prepared the country to confront the COVID-19 crisis.
Moreover, he pointed out the vaccination will be conducted over three stages:
1-The first stage targets the citizens and residents who are over 65 years, those who are most vulnerable to infection.
2-The second stage targets people who are over 50 years, and those who are suffering from chronic diseases, as well as those with obesity with BMI between 30 – 40.
3-The third stage targets all citizens and residents who are wanting to take the vaccine.
This comes within Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Health efforts to curb the spread of the pandemic.
