On Monday, The 19-year-old Czech player, Jakub Mensik, achieved a surprise victory by defeating his childhood idol, Novak Djokovic, with 7-6, 7-6 in the final of the Miami Open. This victory denied Djokovic's dream to catch his 100th career title. On the other hand, this marks Menšík's first ATP title.
Mensik, ranked 54th, faced difficulties in only his second ATP final, but he brought out his best to overcome the Serbian icon, who has 24 Grand Slam titles.
Djokovic, at 37 years old, was hoping to join Jimmy Connors (109 titles) and Roger Federer (103 titles) as the only players in the Open Era to have won 100 or more titles in their careers.
The match began hours later than expected after repeated delays due to rain, which had caused a long interruption in the women’s doubles final earlier in the day.
