At least 15 civilians were killed and two wounded on Sunday during a "terrorist attack" targeting a Catholic church in the village of Isakani in northern Burkina Faso, the head of the local diocese, Abbot Jean-Pierre Sawadogo.
"We draw your attention to the terrorist attack that claimed the lives of the Catholic parish in the village of Isakani, today, February 25, during a gathering for Sunday Mass,” Sawadogo said.
He indicated that "15 were killed" and "two were wounded" in a "preliminary toll."
It is noteworthy that since 2015, Burkina Faso has witnessed an escalation in the activity of armed groups, including the local branch of the terrorist organization ISIS.
According to data from non-governmental organizations, at least 10,000 people, both civilians and soldiers, have been killed as a result of militant attacks since 2015, in addition to the displacement of about two million people.
