The Cuban government has confirmed the deaths of 13 Revolutionary Armed Forces members following an explosion at an ammunition depot in the eastern town of Mioness, about 730 kilometers from Havana.
The explosion occurred on January 7, leading to the evacuation of over 1,200 nearby residents.
Initially reported as missing, the victims included nine soldiers and four officers.
In a statement, the Ministry of Revolutionary Armed Forces announced that expert analyses concluded it was impossible to access the explosion site, making survival highly unlikely.
Preliminary investigations attribute the explosion to an electrical malfunction caused by a short circuit within the facility.
