Eleven people were killed when a bus overturned in the Kanyonyo region in Kitwe county, southern Kenya, while others injured were taken to hospitals for treatment.

11 people died late yesterday, Saturday when the bus they were on overturned; they were returning from a wedding party, the local "Standard Media" website stated on Sunday.

The website quoted a police official from the area, Jacob Moeti, as saying that the vehicle was traveling at a high speed, which led to a loss of control and a fatal crash into a ditch that made it veer off route.

"10 people died on the spot and the 11th victim died while receiving treatment at Matu Hospital," he added. "A small number of other passengers were injured and taken to the same hospital, and some of them, who were seriously injured, were transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi."

Moeti pointed out that there was an overloaded of more than what was permitted by law at the time of the accident, as it could accommodate only 14 passengers.

On February 20 this year, at least 4 people were killed, including two of them with Canadian citizenships, and two others were injured in an accident that took place in the Dagoretti area along the "Ngnog" road in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, according to the local "The Star Co" website.

On the 4th of last July, 15 people were killed, when two buses collided on a highway in southeastern Kenya.
