Tonight, the Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) will kick off at Cairo Opera House. This edition will witness the participation of 84 films.
10 Egyptian films will participate in various competitions.
Starting with the international competition, three Egyptian films will take part in the competition. They are "Aash Ya Captin" (Lift Like a Girl), "Hazr Tagawol" (Curfew), and "Aanha" (About Her).
Directed by May Zayed, "Aash Ya Captin" is a documentary film about a 14 old girl who dreams to be an athlete and to lift weights.
The film traces the journey of the girl and her captain to be an international athlete.
"Hazr Tagawol" is the second Egyptian film in the competition. It is directed by Amir Ramsis and starring Elham Shahin and Amina Khalil.
The story of the film revolves around a day in 2013 when the curfew is applied. The film focuses on the mixed feelings of a former prisoner facing the people again on the day of curfew after long years in prison.
The final Egyptian film in the competition is "Aanha." Directed by Eslam Azzazzi, the story of the film reflects the story of a woman who discovers the secrets her departed husband left behind.
Moving to the Egyptian participants at the Horizons of Arab Cinema Competition, only 1 Egyptian participant is in the competition which is "Aala El Selem" (On the Fence) by Nissren El Zayat.
Moving to the Cinema of Tomorrow Competition, five Egyptian films will take part in the competition including "El Ragil Ely Balaa' El Radio" (The Man who Swallows the Dadio) by Yassir Shafiey, "El Had El Saa'a Khamsa" (Sunday, 5 pm) by Sherief Al Bandary, and "Henet Ward" (Ward's Hina Party) by Mourad Mostafa.
On the other hand, there are two films that will be screened away from the competition. They are "Stasher" (I am Afraid to Forget Your Face" by Sameh Alaa, and "Wahda Kida" (About a Girl) by Marwan Nabil.
The final Egyptian participant at CIFF is "Ammar" which will be screened at the Midnight Screenings.
