The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced on Wednesday the imposition of new sanctions targeting individuals and entities in China and Iran, in a continued effort to counter threats to national security and enforce international norms.

According to a statement released by the Treasury, the sanctions are aimed at individuals allegedly involved in activities ranging from cyber-enabled threats and illicit financial transactions to the proliferation of weapons-related technologies. The move underscores Washington’s ongoing commitment to curbing malign influence and safeguarding the international financial system.

“These designations send a clear message: the United States will take decisive action against those who support destabilizing activities, whether through technology transfer, financial support, or cyber operations,” said Brian E. Nelson, Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence.

Although the specific names of the sanctioned individuals have not yet been disclosed publicly, the Treasury indicated that the targeted parties are linked to networks that have facilitated operations benefiting both Chinese and Iranian strategic objectives deemed hostile to U.S. interests.

The newly imposed sanctions will freeze any U.S.-based assets of the designated individuals and bar American persons or entities from engaging in transactions with them.

This latest measure is part of a broader sanctions regime that has seen increased pressure on foreign actors accused of undermining U.S. national and international security. Officials say further actions may follow depending on the evolving nature of the threats.
