Tammy Bruce, head of the US State Department press service, said that suspending sanctions on Syria represents a strategic step toward the lasting defeat of ISIS.
She said that defeating ISIS in Syria is "a fundamental goal for the United States," noting that this decision gives Syrians the opportunity to build a better future.
During a regular press conference held Tuesday evening, Bruce added that the US President's administration is working to mobilize international support to revive the Syrian economy. She said, "We are working with regional and global partners to attract investment to Syria."
Bruce's remarks come after US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's decision to suspend a package of sanctions imposed on Damascus since 2019, for 180 days, a move Washington described as deliberate and conditional on the fight against terrorism.
