The US State Department said the United States will impose sanctions on Sudan after it was proven to have used chemical weapons in 2024.

US State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said in a statement that "the United States will impose sanctions on Sudan, including restrictions on US exports to the country and on access to US government credit lines."

Bruce added, "The sanctions will take effect immediately upon publication of a notice in the Federal Register, expected on or about June 6."

She noted that the United States calls on the government of Sudan to cease all use of chemical weapons and fulfill its obligations under the Chemical Weapons Convention.
