Saturday marks the 17th anniversary of the passing of the late UAE Leader Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who passed away Ramadan 19, 1425 AH while performing his humanitarian role in the service of the Arab people.

Today, the Arab world and the people of UAE are commemorating the 17th anniversary of the death of the late His Majesty Ruler of Abu Dhabi. Zayed the great is known as the father of modern UAE for his insightful vision, wisdom, and dedication towards the people.

The day is marked as Zayed Humanitarian Day in UAE. This annual occasion is remembered to pay tribute to the great freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives for the country's unity.

In this regard,  Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces paid tribute to the Founding Father of the UAE on his death anniversary.

"On Zayed Humanitarian Day, we honour the generosity of our Founding Father, God rest his soul. His philanthropic efforts extended across the world, regardless of faith or race, and on this day we renew our efforts to walk along his path of kindness and compassion for all," Prince of Abu Dhabi wrote on Twitter on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Humaid said that Zayed Humanitarian Day, which marks the death anniversary of Sheikh Zayed and falls on the 19th of Ramadan every year, embodies the values of goodness and generosity that he left behind and entrenches the UAE's position as a beacon of goodness and giving, according to Emirati media.

In an official statement, Sheikh Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman indicated that the UAE was founded on the values of tolerance, cooperation and solidarity among all.

"UAE also adopted humanitarian work and philanthropy as a principle and approach whose foundations were laid by the Founding Father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan," the statement added.

In the same context, thousands of inpiduals and Emirati citizens took to social media to recall Zayed’s journey of life. At the time of his passing, Nov. 2 2004, Sheikh Zayed was the longest-serving executive head of state worldwide.

Zayed was born Nov.14 1935 in Abo Dabi to Sultan Al Nahyan who was the ruler of Abu Dhabi from 1922 until he died in 1926 and Sheikha Salama bint Butti. He had four brothers, Shakhbut bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Khalid bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Hazza bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and one sister, Maryam bint Sultan Al Nahyan.

When the British empire in January 1968 announced that it would withdraw from the Persian Gulf before the end of 1971, Zayed oversaw the establishment of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Arab Economic Development; some of its oil riches were channelled to some forty less fortunate Islamic nations in Asia and Africa during the decades that followed.

Furthermore, he was also known for making donations to the tune of millions (pounds sterling) for worthy causes around the Arab World as well as in the neighbouring countries and the world at large.

Using the country's enormous oil revenues, Zayed built institutions such as hospitals, schools and universities and made it possible for UAE citizens to enjoy free access to them, according to his biography.

In 1976, he founded the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, which grew to be the world's third-largest sovereign investment fund by 2020, with nearly a trillion US dollars' worth of assets under management.

The Emarat's first president and ruler captured the world's attention as a royal trendsetter, but during his time in the public eye, he also became a prominent philanthropic force.

Zayed worked tirelessly on behalf of charities around the world, using his fame to raise awareness of a number of important humanitarian issues. Seventeen years after his death, here's why Zayed will always be remembered as the "The servant of humanity"
