The Israeli military announced early Sunday that it had intercepted a missile fired from Yemen, a day after Israel launched airstrikes on two ports in Houthi-controlled areas.
The Israeli military said that "air defense systems are working to intercept a missile fired from Yemen." The military also reported that "alarms were activated in several areas in Israel."
Social media circulated images of the interception of a missile fired from Yemen toward Israel.
The Israeli military announced on Friday that it had launched airstrikes on the ports of Hodeidah and Salif, stating that it had "targeted and destroyed infrastructure" belonging to the Iran-backed Houthis.
Since the outbreak of the Gaza War in October 2023, the Houthis in Yemen have launched repeated missile and drone attacks on Israel in support of Hamas. In response, the Israeli Air Force has targeted Houthi sites in Yemen.
They also expanded their campaign against ships linked to the United States and Britain in response to strikes launched by the two countries in early 2024.
However, in March, the United States launched an intensive air campaign against Houthi positions in Yemen, launching almost daily strikes, before Trump abruptly announced the group's surrender about two weeks ago.
Last week, US President Donald Trump announced a halt to US strikes on Houthi targets, and the Sultanate of Oman later announced that it had brokered a ceasefire agreement.
