Former Antiquities Minister Dr. Zahi Hawass announced Monday that an Egyptian millionaire named Maged Girgis contacted him and offered paying millions of dollars for restoring King Tutankhamen bust again to Egypt.

"If you had told me that there was an auction in London for selling the Egyptian king’s bust, I would have paid its price, valued at $6 million, and restored it to Egypt”, Girgis told Hawass.

In a phone interview with TV anchor Amr Adib’s ‘El-Hekaya’ talk show aired on MBC satellite channel, Hawass added that he is currently looking for the person who bought the sculpture of King Tut's head.

He added that an earthquake rocked Southern California while he was eating dinner at a restaurant there on Friday’s night.

The magnitude 7.1 quake caused injuries, sparked fires and closed roadways but no deaths were reported.

It is noteworthy that the King’s bust was sold for £4.7 million at the Christie’s auction house in London on Thursday.

The auction house refused to reveal the identity of the buyer.

The Egyptian Foreign and Antiquities ministries issued a joint statement condemning the auctioning, saying it contravened international treaties and conventions.
