Ukraine’s ambassador to Germany, Oleksii Makeiev, has expressed confidence that German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will pledge fresh military aid during his visit to Kyiv on Saturday.
The visit comes as Merz arrives in the Ukrainian capital alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk, in a show of coordinated Western support.
While Makeiev did not elaborate on the expected shipment details, he stated he is confident that Germany will continue to back Ukraine militarily.
The German government, now under conservative leadership, reportedly plans to maintain a high level of confidentiality regarding the specifics of its arms deliveries to Ukraine.
This visit marks a critical moment for Kyiv, which has repeatedly called for sustained and increased military assistance from its European allies amid ongoing conflict.
The anticipated pledge from Germany would reinforce its commitment to Ukraine’s defence, even as Berlin faces growing domestic and international scrutiny over the transparency of its support.
