The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Egyptian Expatriates has formed a 24/7 operations room to monitor developments in Libya and coordinate with the Egyptian embassy in Tripoli to ensure continuous support for Egyptian citizens.

According to a ministry statement on Wednesday, the Egyptian National Committee on Libya is closely monitoring the rapidly escalating situation in Libya.

The statement added that inquiries and assistance requests can be made via the following phone lines: +218914897985 and +201115566606.

The committee also urged Egyptian citizens in Libya to stay home, avoid tense areas, and exercise maximum caution.

These measures come amid mounting unrest and fears of further escalation after violent clashes broke out between rival armed groups in the Libyan capital, Tripoli, on Monday.

Hours after the clashes erupted in Tripoli, Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty affirmed Egypt’s commitment to supporting Libya’s territorial integrity and political stability.

He also renewed Cairo’s call for holding presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously and without delay.

Ongoing power conflict in Libya

Since the 2011 uprising that overthrew longtime ruler Muammar Gaddafi, Libya has been facing persistent instability.

The country remains deeply divided between a UN-recognized government in Tripoli and a rival administration in the east.

Although recent years have seen moments of relative calm, violent clashes between the rival armed groups continue to erupt periodically, fueled by ongoing power struggles and territorial disputes.

Tensions have recently resurfaced, leading authorities in several districts of Tripoli and its suburbs to shut down schools on Tuesday until further notice.

In response, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) expressed serious concern over the worsening security situation and called for an immediate return to calm.
