Dollar Records EGP 26.5 amid 25% Saving Certificates

The exchange rates of the dollar, including all other foreign currencies, rose against the Egyptian pound at the end of dealings on Wednesday in Egyptian banks after Banque Misr and the National Bank of Egypt (NBE) announced the launch of a one-year savings certificate with 25% interest, which will be spent at the end of the period, or 22.5% interest, which will be spent monthly.

The exchange rate of the dollar witnessed a great movement against the Egyptian pound, and today it rose by more than 130 piasters in Egyptian banks.

In the two largest banks in terms of assets and transactions, the NBE and Banque Misr, the exchange rate recorded today EGP 26.25 to buy, and EGP 26.3 to sell.

In private banks, the exchange rate of the dollar in the Commercial International Bank (CIB) recorded EGP 26.3 to buy, and EGP 26.4 to sell, and in the Egyptian Gulf Bank it recorded EGP 26.51 to buy, and EGP 26.55 to sell.

In the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), average prices of the dollar against the Egyptian pound recorded EGP 26.36 to buy, and EGP 26.48 to sell.

On December 22, 2022, the Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Egypt decided to raise the rates of the overnight deposit and lending return and the price of the main operation of the Central Bank by 300 basis points, to reach 16.25%, 17.25% and 16.75%, respectively. The credit and discount rate was raised by 300 basis points to 16.75%.
