CAIRO, Feb. 15 (SEE) - The Embassy of Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (known as North Korea) in Cairo celebrated on Thursday the 77th anniversary of the North Korean Leader Kim Jong-il ’s birthday, born on the 16th of February 1942, on Korea’s sacred mountain Baekdu.
North Korea’s Ambassador Ma Dong Hoy opened
his speech saying, “Relations between our country and Egypt are based on
history, friendship, and cooperation. Former leaders of both countries set the
bases and developed these mutual ties.”
He added
that “We hope that Egyptian government and people will support Koreans to
spread peace and prosperity across the Korean Peninsula. We also trust that you
will positively contribute in developing the friendship between the two Koreas.”
Regarding
the relations between their neighboring country, Hoy expressed, “Thanks to the
procedures taken by our country at the beginning of the last year, North Korea-South
Korea relations have entered a new phase.”
Worth
noting is that after a first summit was held in Singapore in June, a second
summit will take place in Vietnam on the 27th and the 28th
of February, where the North Korean President Kim Jong Un and his USA’s counterpart
Donald Trump are going to meet.
