Canada has formally summoned Israel’s ambassador after Israeli forces fired warning shots near a group of foreign diplomats, including four Canadians, during a visit to the occupied West Bank city of Jenin.

The incident has sparked widespread international criticism and renewed calls for accountability.

Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand urged Israel to launch a thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

The Canadian government expressed serious concern over the safety of its diplomats and emphasized the importance of diplomatic immunity and the protection of foreign envoys in conflict zones.

Reports confirm that four Canadian representatives were among the group approached by gunfire from Israeli soldiers. While no injuries were reported, the act has drawn sharp reactions from multiple European nations and international organizations.

Italy, Spain, Belgium, France, and the European Union condemned the warning shots fired toward the diplomats, characterizing them as a direct threat and a violation of international diplomatic norms. These governments have demanded that Israel clarify the circumstances and explain the actions of its military forces in Jenin.

In response, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani also summoned Israel’s ambassador. He stated that Italian Deputy Consul Alessandro Totino was among those targeted near the Jenin refugee camp and confirmed that he was unharmed.
