CAIRO, March 20 (MENA) - Chairman of the Egyptian-European Council and Prominent Businessman Mohamed Abou El Enein said on Wednesday the suggested constitutional amendments offer a new philosophy to achieve the Egyptians' hopes and inspirations.

During a meeting under the rubric "Social Dialogue on Constitutional Amendments", Abou El Enein pointed out that the gathering aims at exchanging supporting and opposing views and constructive opinions as well.

"We as a private sector, businessmen, civil society, as a council gather to accentuate how the amendments are important for Egypt," Abou El Enein noted, describing the meeting as a democratic free meeting.

In his speech, the prominent businessman stressed the importance of drafting a new constitution in 2014 to prevent falling in a civil war, citing the fate of Syria, Iraq, and Libya.

He also referred to many cases in which there was no commitment to the constitution like Russia's Vladimir Putin and US Franklin D. Roosevelt, saying that the French constitution was changed 62 times in the great crises.

He further hailed the Egyptian political leadership which improved the country’s image abroad.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ahmad Fathi Sorour, who attended the meeting, expressed his great support for the suggested amendments, stating that four years for one presidential term aren't enough for a president to achieve his plans and policies.

"Extending the presidential term to six years is an inevitable matter," Sorour said.

The famous legal expert pointed out that the constitutional amendments are much and don't violate rights and freedoms in the same time, noting "some people want to reduce them in one article which is determining the presidential period."

The meeting was attended by MPs and legal experts and figures from different political parties who also delivered speeches on the amendments.
