A Thai police aircraft crashed into the sea near the popular coastal town of Hua Hin on Friday morning, killing all six officers on board, according to official statements.
The small plane, operated by the Royal Thai Police, was conducting a test flight in preparation for a parachute training exercise when it went down around 8:00 a.m. local time (01:00 GMT), said police spokesperson Archayon Kraithong.
The crash occurred near Hua Hin Airport, located in Prachuap Khiri Khan province, a region known for its tourism and tranquil beaches. According to the provincial public relations department, the aircraft plunged into the sea just 100 meters from the shoreline.
Images released by local authorities show debris from the wreckage floating in the water close to shore, as rescue personnel carried out recovery operations.
Hua Hin, located about 200 kilometers southwest of Bangkok, is a favored destination for both local tourists and international visitors, and it is rare for such incidents to occur in the area.
