At least four people have died and 17 others remain missing following a series of devastating landslides in a rural area of Guizhou province in southwest China, according to official Chinese media.
Local authorities reported that two bodies were recovered on Thursday in the town of Changxi, while two more were found in the nearby village of Qingjiang. The landslides buried 19 people from eight families beneath the rubble.
State-run Xinhua News Agency confirmed that rescue operations are ongoing as emergency teams search for survivors trapped under debris. The disaster has raised fresh concerns about infrastructure safety and emergency preparedness in the region, which is prone to severe weather and unstable terrain.
Landslides are a recurring threat in mountainous areas of China, particularly during the rainy season. Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the recent collapse but continue to monitor surrounding areas for further risk.
