Zamalek defeated Morocco's Raja Casablanca 1-0 at the Mohamed V Stadium in the first leg of the CAF Champions League semi-finals in a hard fought match.
Zamalek surprisingly opened the scoring in the 18th minute of the game through Achraf Bencharki, who is enjoying one of the best seasons of his career.
Ahmed Sayed Zizo sprinted on the right-hand side and produced an accurate cross that met a Bencharki, who rose high above the defender and the goalkeeper’s hand to place a fine header.
Raja tried to even the scoring just three minutes before the break as Soufiane Rahimi’s header forced a good save from Zamalek goalkeeper Mohamed Abou-Gabal.
With this victory, the White Giants will now go into the second leg with a one-goal cushion as they will encounter Raja again next Saturday at the Cairo Stadium.
