The international press highlighted the events of the match between Tarajy of Tunisia and Wedad of Morocco in the final of the CAF Champions League.

The disaster began when the referee Bakary Gasima cancelled Wedad's equalizer.  The Moroccan team then resorted to video technology (VAR). The match was suspended in the 60th minute due to objections from the Moroccan team after they were told that the video technique was out of order.

During the suspension of the match, African Union President Ahmed Ahmed and the leaders of CAF came to the ground in a failed attempt to contain the chaos that ensued between the two club presidents. After the match was suspended for more than an hour and a half, the referee announced that Wedad has withdrawn from the match thus announcing Tarajy as the winners.

The world was quick to react to one of the biggest football disaster in recent memory:

Fox Sports highlighted the role played by VAR technology in disrupting the African Champions League final.

The American network said that the referee did not verify the video technology to ensure the validity of the Moroccan Wydad target because it was disabled.

The network noted that the events of the final match of the African Champions League are another global debate about the most damaging football techniques, referring to the VAR.

The Daily Mail highlighted the failure of the final, proclaiming It was the first time in 55-year history of African club competitions that a final was not completed. The newspaper highlighted the riots in the game and the controversy raised by the video technique.
