3 Egyptians Advance to QFs of Windy City Open Squash Championship

Three Egyptian squash stars, Mostafa Asal, Nour ElSherbini, and Hania El Hammamy, have secured their places in the quarter-finals of the Windy City Open, currently taking place in Chicago, United States, from February 5 to 12.

The prestigious tournament, classified as a Platinum-level event, offers total prize money of $220,000 for both the men’s and women’s draws, underlining its importance on the professional squash calendar.

World No.1 Mostafa Asal delivered a commanding performance in the men’s competition, defeating India’s Abhay Singh in straight games, 3–0 (11–8, 11–5, 11–7), to comfortably book his quarter-final spot.

In the women’s draw, Hania El Hammamy continued her strong form with a dominant 3–0 victory over Lucy Beecroft, winning 11–9, 11–7, 11–2. 

Meanwhile, former world champion Nour ElSherbini also progressed with ease, overcoming fellow Egyptian Hanaa Ramadan 3–0 (11–3, 11–5, 11–7).

Elsewhere in the tournament, Egypt’s Youssef Soliman was eliminated after a 3–1 defeat to Marwan ElShorbagy, while Kenzy Ayman exited the competition following a 3–1 loss to Siva Sangari Subramaniam.

Egypt has a strong presence at this year’s Windy City Open, with a total of 20 players competing. The men’s field includes Mostafa Asal, Ali Abu ElEinen, Fares Dessouky, Yahya ElNawassany, Youssef Soliman, Karim Abdel Gawad, Mohamed Abou Elghar, and Karim ElTurky.

The women’s draw features Hania El Hammamy, Zeina Mickawy, Mariam Metwally, Kenzy Ayman, Nour Abou Elmakarem, Hanaa Ramadan, Hanaa Moataz, Nour ElSherbini, Salma Hany, Fayrouz Abouelkheir, Sana Ibrahim, and Amina Orfi.
