Ramadan Sobhy received the best player of the tournament award for this year's U-23 African Cup of Nations after leading Egypt throughout the tournament; the young Ahly player scored the winning goal for his nation.
Egypt's Under-23 captain Ramadan stated after winning the award that "the first team's exit at the African Cup of Nations put them under pressure and expressed his happiness to achieve the title and hold his first trophy as a team captain.
"In the first game there was no crowd, but as soon as we did well in the tournament, the fans came to support us in the rest of the journey," he added.
Ramadan displayed a spectacular performance over the five matches, and managed to lead his nation to their first African under 23 tournament after scoring 3 vital goals throughout the tournament.
The Egyptian Olympic team, led by Shawki Gharib, were crowned the African Nations Cup under-23 title, at the expense of Côte d'Ivoire 2-1, in the final of the tournament hosted by Egypt.
Egypt and Cote d'Ivoire qualified for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, alongside South Africa, which qualified after beating Ghana on penalties 6-5 on Friday after the two teams ended their regular time with two goals each.
