Morocco announced that it joined Spain and Portugal for 2030 FIFA World Cup bid, instead of Ukraine.
Morocco had five unsuccessful attempts to host the tournament: 1994, 1998, 2006, 2010 and 2026.
In case, the three countries won the bid, Morocco would be the first country to host World Cup matches in North Africa.
Ukraine presence at the bid for the first time was suggested by president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, and the Portuguese Football Association. They said at the time the bid “aims to contribute through the power of football to the recovery of a country undergoing reconstruction”.
However, due to the ongoing war in the European country, Morocco replaces it at the bid.
