Argentina's star Lionel Messi expressed deep sadness over his absence from La Albiceleste in the highly anticipated clash against Brazil this March in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
The Argentine Football Association announced that Messi would miss Argentina’s squad for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil, scheduled for March 22 and 26.
Messi's absence is due to injury, as he has also been sidelined for Inter Miami’s last three matches due to fatigue.
Speaking to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Messi expressed: "I am saddened that I won't be able to play in two important matches like Uruguay and Brazil."
He added: "I really wanted to play, but minor injuries mean I need to rest and won’t be able to be there."
Messi continued: "I will still support and cheer for the team from wherever I am, just like any other fan. Vamos, Argentina!"
