Spain manager Luis de la Fuente moved to ease tensions between the Spanish Football Federation and FC Barcelona following the injury of young star Lamine Yamal, whose withdrawal from the national team camp for medical reasons sparked controversy between both sides.
Speaking at a press conference, De la Fuente said: “The good news is that he still has 15 years ahead of him to play with us. We hope he returns as soon as possible. We always think about both the present and the future. Our goal now is to win and practically secure qualification.”
The Spain coach stressed that relations with Barcelona—and with all clubs—remain positive despite occasional disagreements. He added: “Our relationship with all clubs is good, but there are always things that can be improved. We must keep evolving to become a team capable of competing for the World Cup.”
De la Fuente acknowledged that injuries are part of the game, noting: “Unfortunately, injuries will happen. With the number of matches and the intensity required, players from all national teams will suffer.”
Looking ahead to the upcoming match against Georgia, De la Fuente warned that the game will not resemble their previous encounter two and a half years ago.
He stated: “It will be a complicated match, and we must be at our best to win. We are full of enthusiasm, but we need to stay realistic. No one gives you victory easily, and what this team is achieving is not simple at all.”
