The International Football Federation (FIFA) announced a three-year ban on former Spanish Football Federation president, Luis Rubiales, from engaging in any football-related activities.

The decision, made public on Monday, comes in the wake of a scandal involving World Champion Jenny Hermoso.

FIFA's disciplinary committee took action against Rubiales, citing a violation of Article 13 of FIFA's disciplinary code.

"The FIFA disciplinary committee has decided to ban Luis Rubiales, the former head of the Spanish Football Federation, from participating in any football-related activity at both national and international levels for three years,” according to an official statement,

The committee has notified Rubiales of this decision, and under the relevant provisions of the disciplinary law, Rubiales has ten days to request a detailed decision.

He has the option to appeal this decision before FIFA’s appeal committee.

Rubiales tendered his resignation last September; three weeks after the incident where he forcibly kissed Jenny Hermoso on her lips following Spain's victory over England in Sydney on August 20.

Although Rubiales later claimed the act was consensual, he faced widespread criticism and was accused of "sexual assault" by a Spanish court, which also prohibited him from approaching the player within 200 meters.

FIFA had initially suspended Rubiales on August 26 from any football-related activities at both national and international levels for 90 days and initiated an investigation into the matter.

This recent announcement extends Rubiales' ban, marking a significant disciplinary action that underscores FIFA's commitment to maintaining a respectful and safe environment within the football community.
