On Monday, the Egyptian Minister of Health Dr. Hala Zayed revealed that the official number of Coronavirus cases in Egypt does not reflect the reality, according to Sputnik News agency.

In televised statements to Al-Arabiya TV channel, Zayed said that the reported cases are only the infections diagnosed by the health systems.

"Many people do not know that they are infected, while others contract the virus and receive home treatment, without being registered at the health ministry's laboratories, which are responsible for recording infections," she added.

Moreover, Zayed noted that December and January are expected to record an obvious surge in the number of covid-19 cases and deaths.

Concerning the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine, the minister said that Egypt is currently conducting tests for the vaccine through the National Authority for Drug Control and Research (NODCAR), noting that it will be distributed once its approval.

It is worth mentioning that, Egypt has so far registered 132,541 cases and 7,405 deaths.
