The South Korean army detected artillery fire from North Korea toward the sea, according to Yonhap News Agency, quoting a source.

According to the source, last Monday morning, the South Korean army detected North Korean artillery fire toward the sea, likely from a Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS).

South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff recently announced that Pyongyang had carried out two more MLRS launches last Sunday.

On the other hand, it was reported earlier that six US F-35A fighter jets arrived in South Korea from the US Air Force base in Alaska, to conduct joint exercises with the South Korean Air Force from July 10 to 14.

South Korea is planning to join the US-led multinational global space security exercise, which is scheduled to take place from July 25 to August 1, according to sources quoted by Yonhap. Eighteen countries will participate.

This year, the North has conducted a series of apparent ICBM launches, including what it claimed to be a reconnaissance satellite development test and the March 24 launch that ended its years-long moratorium on long-range missile tests.

To deal with the growing North Korean threats, the US and South Korea agreed to expand allied joint exercises and revitalize the main deterrence dialogue.

US President Joe Biden also reiterated the position of the United States. Commit to deploying its strategic military assets “in a timely and coordinated manner as necessary.”
