An official in the Sudanese Ministry of Finance announced an agreement with the World Bank to finance 17 projects in the fields of energy, irrigation and agriculture, with the International Development Corporation at a cost of $2 billion.

Sudan repaid its debts to the World Bank last March, with a loan from the U.S., which made it eligible to receive development financing.

Adviser to the Minister of Finance for International Cooperation, Heba Mohamed Ali, said in a statement to the Sudanese government spokesperson's platform, that "the transitional government has agreed with the World Bank that the International Development Association will finance 17 projects at a cost of $2 billion dollars."

She indicated that the funding will be allocated to energy, irrigation and agriculture projects, in addition to other projects in marginalized and conflict-affected areas.

She added that the projects will be implemented in all regions of Sudan, focusing on the Darfur region (west), the Nuba Mountains (south) and eastern Sudan, asking ministries to submit project proposals, as they are responsible for their implementation.

This funding from the World Bank's International Development Corporation is the first of its kind for Sudan in 27 years.

David Malpass, President of the World Bank Group, is on a visit, the first of its kind to Sudan in more than fifty years, during which he will meet with the President of the Sovereign Council, Lieutenant-General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, and Prime Minister Abdullah Hamdok.
