Why Egyptian Champions Dominated Al Maktoum’s Creative Sports Award?

Dubai, Jan. 12 (SEE) – Four Egyptian sports figures and Egyptian National Squash Men’s Team made Egyptians delighted, after winning the 10th edition of the prestigious Mohamed bin Rashed Al Maktoum Creative Sports Award. The winners received the award for their achievements from 1 September 2017 to 31 August 2018.

The winners were: iconic footballer Mohamed Salah, modern pentathlon Olympic athlete Ahmed Osama El-Guendi, boxing coach Nadia Abdel Hamid Abdel Hafiz, Olympic weightlifter Mohamed Ehab, and the Egyptian National Squash Men’s Team: Karim Abdel Gawad, Ramy Ashour, Aly Farag, and Marwan El-Shorbagy.

The award was pided into several categories, including: the Outstanding Arab Athlete Award, Arab Athlete Award, Arab Athlete Who Achieved Outstanding Success in Sports, Arab Team Award, and Arab Coach Award.

Liverpool winger was awarded the Outstanding Arab Athlete. Salah’s achievements during 2018 were numerous, including: winning the CAF African Player of the Year (for the second consecutive time), being one of the top three world players, the best professional Arab player in the Europa League, and the first Arab player to be the English Premier League’s top scorer.

Olympic weightlifter Ehab won the Arab Athlete Award. Ehab won three gold medals at the 2018 IWF World Weightlifting Championship that took place in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, from 1-10 November. He also set a new world record at the tournament.

El-Guendi was awarded the Arab Athlete Who Achieved Outstanding Success in Sports. Throughout 2018, the Egyptian athlete triumphed at many occasions. However his most remarkable victory was winning two gold medals, at the 2018 Buenos Aires Summer Youth Olympics that took place in Argentina from 6 to 18 October. He won gold at the boys’ inpidual modern pentathlon games, and gold at the mixed relay competitions, along with China’s Gu Yewen.

Ashour, Farag, Abdel Gawad, and El-Shorbagy, representing the Egyptian National Squash Men’s Team at the 2017 Men’s World Team Squash Championship, were awarded the Arab Team Award, for claiming the championship’s title. The tournament was celebrated in Marseilles, France, from 26 November to 3 December 2017.

Egyptian sports woman Abdel Hafiz won the Arab Coach Award for her contribution in coaching Egypt’s boxing team who snatched 45 medals, at different Arab and international competitions.

The awards’ result was announced on 26 November 2918. Afterwards, the awards’ ceremony took place on 9 January, at the Sheikh Rashid Ballroom, at the Dubai World Trade Center, UAE. A day after, on 10 January, UAE’s Vice President, Prime Minister, and Dubai’s Ruler Sheikh Mohamed bin Rashed Al Maktoum received the winners at his palace in Zaabeel.
