Regional director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Machidiso Moeti warned on Thursday that Africa is facing a pivotal moment in its fight against the outbreak of the Coronavirus, as the numbers of cases and deaths is increasing after easing travel restrictions and lockdowns.
"Indeed, we are at a pivotal moment in the pandemic in Africa. While the continent has experienced a downward trend in its epidemic curve during the past three months, this decline has plateaued," Moeti, the WHO's Africa director, told a press conference.
She pointed out that African countries "are now in a much better position” regarding facing the new challenges that Covid-19 poses.
